A security system must reduce risks. Information must be sent back and forth to avoid burglary, intrusion, theft, vandalism, fire and accidents. Whether it concerns fire detection, closed-circuit television systems, audio and video systems, parking and access technology, networks or automated lighting, it can be summarized as integral safety.
All this information must be collected in an incident room, assessed and, if necessary, saved or sent onwards.

A wireless network which, for example, connects (wireless) Ethernet security cameras to a cable data network can be built for special situations. In this way, remote locations can be connected directly to a security network and, if necessary, converters can be used to connect the various signals for fire alarms and other alarms to the network. It then becomes useless to attempt to sabotage the system by cutting through the data or telephone cables.

For other applications, (private) fibre optic networks can be installed which are not distorted by bugging devices or common disturbances caused by EMI/EMC sources and which, of course, offer a very high bandwidth.

This can be a solution for certain government institutions, hospitals or machine halls. Furthermore, the latest generation of fibre optic cables is able to span greater distances than was possible before and everybody can now have an affordable gigabit Ethernet.

Another aspect of security concerns the risk of fire. This risk can be considerably reduced by using flame retardant Low Smoke Zero Halogen cables. The use of flame retardant materials is compulsory in government buildings and other public buildings. LSZH cables are also used as standard on ships and drilling rigs, where a higher tool life is required.
